A little trip to Los Angeles to see the boys in orange and black take on the hated dodgers, spawned an adventure to discover the original "French Dipped Sandwich" at Philippe's in downtown LA. Walking into the sawdust covered cement floor, the aroma of deliciousness filled my nose exciting me for what was to come. Hey, at this point, I'm about to eat the first french dip ever created, don't judge. The 10 minute wait in line finally came to an end where I ordered the original beef dip. The fine staff at Philippe's dips the soft roll in the Au Jus before serving it. "No Au Ju on the side, WTF?". Way to take the wind out of my sails Philippes. Not only was I disappointed eating my sandwich with out a bath of that tasty au jus before every bite, the sandwich really wasn't that great. Did I just travel 365 miles for a cafeteria style roast beef sandwich? I ended up finishing my dip and just being hungry for two more. The inadequate size was another deduction on the ratings along with the lack of flavor. Cool history and atmosphere, but i cant soak that in Au Jus and eat it.
